Note From the EditorIt was a big day for Hyatt, which had lots of news during an earnings call Thursday, the most surprising of which was the revelation that it had taken a minority stake in "home meets hotel" platform Oasis. As hospitality editor Deanna Ting reported, the hotel company has said repeatedly that it wants to move into "adjacent spaces" beyond traditional hotels to cater to the evolving demands of its guests.
Also trying to keep up with consumer behavior: TripAdvisor, which has expanded food delivery service outside of the U.S. and Canada with Deliveroo. As hotel guests turn their noses up at pricey room service and opt for delivery from local restaurants instead, hotels are being forced to adapt — and that's good news for TripAdvisor's goals to grow business in new areas. — Hannah Sampson, News Editor |

Skift Is 5: Big Stories to Mark the Milestone |
|
|
Skift is 5 years old this week, and it was an occasion for us both to reflect a little, and also do what we do: Launch a new series, Skift Lens, and take an in-depth look at everything from overtourism in Barcelona to Airbnb's IPO prospects and why Norwegian Air is giving investors heartburn. Here are the stories and there's more to come next week. |

Some Skift stories really resonate and our analytics tell us that new readers discover them years after the fact. During Skift's 5th birthday week, we present two such stories. We published one, Every One of Marriott's 30 Hotel Brands, Explained on September 21, 2016, and the other, How Booking.com Turned the Other OTAs Into Converts on June 25, 2012 (even before Skift's official launch). |
