The lion roars

If anyone had any doubts that Analjit Singh's Leeu Collection is going to be a serious player in the worldwide luxury boutique hotel sector, then recent developments should have dispelled them.

The appointment of former Firmdale operations director Carrie Wicks as CEO was a big statement, and the acquisition of a historic building in Florence for an ambitious conversion project also suggested this is a company that isn't going to do things by halves.

Now the Leeu Collection has come out all guns blazing and bought an office building in London's desirable Fitzrovia neighbourhood. This is a prime piece of real estate, which would have been the subject of fierce interest from a range of real estate players, of all disciplines. Leeu plans to convert the building in to a 100-room hotel which will open in 2019. It's a bold move from what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting new hospitality companies in years.
