| | | | Look to the future
• In my last editorial comments I reflected on the end of an era, as Morgans New York, a property widely credited as the first boutique hotel, closed its doors, resulting in the loss of a significant part of our sector's history.
So it's heartening to be able to write today about a group of UK properties very much looking to the future of the industry. A selection of luxury boutique properties in the Cotswolds, including the Calcot Collection, The Lucky Onion Group, Farncombe Estate and Ellenborough Park, have teamed up with Gloucestershire College to launch the Cotswold Star Academy for young people aiming for a career in the hospitality sector.
The training programme is being supported by the Savoy Educational Trust and Creed Foodservice. It will enable each student to gain qualifications, experience and skills while working at the venues, as well as additional training through online learning, work shadowing, masterclasses and seminars at each venue.
At a time when recruitment is becoming an even more urgent issue for the sector, this is a great initiative to engage young people and show them what a rewarding path a career in hospitality can offer.
Well done to all those involved - I hope it is a big success.
Young people interested in applying can send their CV and covering letter to jo.o'connell@gloscol.ac.uk
