• A personal note today rather than an industry observation. On July 30th I am taking part in this year's RideLondon-Surrey, a 100-mile bike ride. I'll be raising funds for the Greyhound Trust, a charity that was founded in 1975, and which has found more than 75,000 loving homes for retired racing greyhounds.
Celebrating the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, RideLondon-Surrey 100 follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey's stunning countryside. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world's best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, it's a truly spectacular event. It finishes on The Mall in central London, shortly before 150 professional cyclists race in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic on a similar route.
I did a lot of cycling when I was younger, but until I started training for this event, I hadn't really ridden bike for around 10 years. Being quite a bit older and a few pounds heavier, the hills seem a lot steeper than they used to but I'm confident I'll complete the ride.
