The online travel and do-it-yourself trip-planning trend really began in the United States, and tour operators have traditionally played a much greater role in Europe and Asia. But tourism reporter Dan Peltier writes today about a new report showing the vast majority of outbound Chinese travelers surveyed indicated they intend to travel independently and not as part of organized tours for their next overseas trips. As the Chinese middle class increasingly gets out to travel the world, they are disrupting the way Chinese outbound travel has traditionally been organized.
