All those travel companies banking on social media influencers to drive interest might think about banking elsewhere — at least in the Asia-Pacific region. That's one takeaway from a new report, which also considers the way travelers in the region book trips and use mobile apps while traveling.

One company that will be looking to maximize mobile use is Latin American booking site Despegar, which just announced a plan to go public. Travel tech editor Sean O'Neill explains what the company wants to focus on to fuel growth, including a greater emphasis on hotels and personalized mobile marketing.

Finally, we can't ignore the horror that struck residents and tourists in Barcelona. The attack in a popular part of the city will no doubt prompt renewed conversations about security, but we have no doubt travelers will continue to explore the world.
