Blair's goal: Include me in

Blair Mulholland loves golf.

Actually, that's an understatement. He's obsessed by golf. And he talks about it a lot.

Blair has faced - and overcome - a lot of challenges in his young life. When he was just three days old, he contracted meningitis. Amongst other things, this caused significant developmental delay. Read article...

Q&A with Kazuma Kobori and Bella Kil
2017 Victorian Boys and Girls Champions

Kazuma, congratulations! How do you feel?
I'm stoked actually. I didn't think I had a chance to win but to shoot 3-under and find out I won the tournament is pretty huge for me.

You were the only boys player to break par today, shooting 69. Yesterday you shot 79. You must be over the moon with that final round?
Yeah I am. I putted pretty mediocre yesterday but today I pretty much holed everything I looked at so it was a nice bounce-back.

It was a tightly contested final-round leaderboard. Were you aware of the scores coming down the stretch?
No. I had no clue. Coming down 14, 15, I didn't actually think I had a chance to win. One of those guys [at the top of the leaderboard] had even par... I was coming 2nd or 3rd place. But I shot 3-under and went to the 18th and found out I was leading by two, so I'll take it.

Have you had a chance to look at any of the past champions engraved on the trophy?
I have not, I will do that right after this interview.

Did you know one of them is Marc Leishman?
I did not. That's insane!

Bella Kil, the 2017 Victorian Girls Champion, how does that sound?
It sounds good to me!

You entered the day two shots clear but had a bit of a rocky round. Did you feel like the wheels were starting to fall off?
I definitely did. I couldn't concentrate at all. I was going everywhere. My shots were off, my putting was off. I said to myself just make pars, pars, pars and get my head in the game again.

Tell us what hole your confidence started to come back?
It never came back. I just thought 'put it on the green and two putt' that's all I was thinking.

On the 18th, you knocked it pretty close and had a downhill putt for birdie. That slid 4-foot past the hole so you had to make the putt coming back to hold on for the win. Were you aware of the situation?
I knew the situation, so I knew that I had to two-putt for a win. I was so nervous, I was so scared. When the putt went in I thought it was going to lip out but luckily it just dropped in for me.

Is this your biggest win yet in your young golfing career?
I'll say yes, yeah!
