view online In association with Arts Brookfield New Sounds Live returns to the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place October 6–13. Experience Carol Szymanski’s Phonemophonic Alphabet Brass Band plus an eclectic range of musical performances This year’s New Sounds Live series features The Phonemophonic Alphabet Brass Band by Carol Szymanski, an installation of sculptures shaped like letters of the alphabet that also function as musical instruments. Each of the 26 horn sculptures (or “phonemophones”) produces a unique range of tones generated by its particular letter’s shape. The phonemophones will be used in two performances—MANITOGA and STEAK abc on October 11 and A Tribute to Pauline Oliveros on October 12—to create an immersive surround sound experience. This free series will conclude on October 13 with Colin Stetson’s enchanting performance of Sorrow: A re-imagining of Górecki’s Third Symphony.
