• The BHA's latest report contains some alarming statistics - not least that a whopping 85 per cent of hotels say they have been the victim of false and/or malicious reviews on OTAs and review sites.
This immediately begs several questions, not least, why on earth would people bother to post this stuff? But it also brings home the need for hotels to monitor their reviews and feedback like a hawk. Reputation management is vital - most online bookers are savvy enough to see through the majority of the dross that gets posted, but some of the false reviews inevitably hit their mark.
On the subject of reviews and guest feedback, we've been absolutely delighted by the response to the 2018 2018 Boutique Hotel Guest experience Awards (The BoHos), after opening for entries at the start of the month. We have already received entries from 16 different countries, and are confident that the BoHos are well on their way to becoming an established highlight in the industry calendar.
The BoHos reward the boutique, lifestyle and hybrid hotels who provide the very best in guest experiences. The BoHos are unique in that the winners are decided, not by judges, but by the hotels' guests, using a combination of aggregated verified guest feedback from review sites and booking engines worldwide, and direct guest feedback via questionnaires. Each have a 50 per cent weighting in a hotel's overall score to give a true picture of the guest experience provided.
Once entries for the 2018 awards have been finalised (the entry period closes on January 19th), a three-month period of data collection will commence, where each property's verified online reviews and direct feedback from guests will be collected and handed over to impartial academics at Glion Institute of Higher Education, who will then independently collate, assess and analyse the data, and decide upon the results.
