Reader discount for GIOHIS

• Our friends over at HOFTEL are offering Boutique Hotel News readers a 10 per cent discount on tickets for the Gulf & Indian Ocean Hotel Investors Summit (GIOHIS), which is taking place at the Yas Viceroy, Abu Dhabi on 29/30th January 2018. The Summit will "fearlessly tackle the big challenges and opportunities facing hotel owners in the Gulf and Indian Ocean region".

The event features a comprehensive agenda which includes our own Piers Brown moderating a session called "Serviced apartments - do large-scale operators offer an advantage over locally-grounded players?" He will be joined for the debate by Mohamed Awadalla, CEO of TIME Hotels and Guus Bakker, CEO, Frasers Hospitality EMEA.

In total there will be 90 top executives debating the region's key hospitality issues, inlcuding Olivier Harnisch, CEO, Emaar; Khalid Anib, CEO, Abu Dhabi National Hotels; Marc Dardenne, COO, Jumeirah; Jalil Mekouar, CEO, Majid Al Futtaim Properties; Samir Baidas, CDO Middle East & Africa, Marriott; Nehme Darwiche, President, DWL; and Zoltan Kali, Head of Hospitality, Omran

Some of the questions posed at the event include:
• Can the region diversify fast enough from its previous dependence on oil and gas – will the move "from motor oil to tanning oil" work?
• Do the OTAs offer owners more than just a powerful but expensive distribution channel?
• Is Dubai getting overbuilt and heading for a hard landing?
• In downturns and tackling the disruptors, do the brands have the answers?
• With more flights and branded hotels, are Indian Ocean owners breaking free of the wholesalers
• What due diligence do you need to do in buying a hotel? Can you sell one in a weak market?

To take advantage of the reader discount, visit www.giohis.com/registration and enter the code: SANdiscount. There are also discounted room rates for delegates on: https://giohis.com/host-hotel/
