• It's taken a while but the announcement of the first site for Ennismore's NoCo brand marks the arrival of a serious player in the budget hotel space. Ennismore's handling and growth of the Hoxton brand - at the economy end of the boutique hotel sector - has been admirable for its choice of just the right locations to suite the brand values and its patience in not rushing the expansion.
But now it has pushed the button on the first NoCo, expect to see a fairly rapid roll out en route to opening in 25 cities across the UK, and then beyond. Ennismore boss Sharan Pasricha describes the NoCo concept as a challenge to "the status quo of today's budget brands. Travelling habits and demands have changed; as has the way that people now use hotels. Our aim is to raise the bar for affordable hotels and provide business and leisure travellers with a stylish alternative to bland, cookie cutter hotels so often found in cities outside of London".
Working on a leasehold model, the concept is sure to be attractive to owners who might have been considering one of the more traditional budget brands, and could well be coming soon to a city near you.
