Note From the EditorWe haven't seen much progress in closing the gender pay gap in travel in the last few years, but at least the UK government is resorting to a new tool to spur action — shaming companies by forcing them to publicly disclose their male-female pay differentials. As our story today shows, airlines, with Ryanair leading the pack, have the poorest track records even though many blame the relative lack of female pilots. Companies such as InterContinental Hotels Group, Hogg Robinson and On the Beach, though, can't articulate similar excuses.
We'd like to see this kind of transparency in other countries — and we hope that even without the public display, travel companies will make it a priority to do better. — Dennis Schaal, Executive Editor |
