• Attracting and retaining good staff is a perennial issue for hoteliers across the world. And it can be a particular problem in seasonal locations where properties may only be open for a few busy months before closing their doors for the off season.
Retaining great people is especially tricky when they are likely to jump at the chance of year-round work if it becomes available. So Grace Hotels' Strategic Labour Partnership is a clever and laudable initiative which could - and should - become a model that is used across the industry.
Grace Hotels has two Greek island properties which close for the winter, so the company decided to team up with Soneva, which operates resorts in the Maldives and Thailand. Soneva then offers the Grace staff work during its peak seasons, which coincide with the closure of the Greek hotels.
The benefits of the scheme extend far beyond simply extending somebody's employment period, important though that is. Find out more in our interview with Tim Williams, group HR director at Grace Hotels - maybe you could get involved too?
