• It was heartening to see Sarah Robbins promoted to chief operating officer at 21c Museum Hotels so soon after AccorHotels bought an 85 per cent stake in the company from its founders, husband and wife team Steve Wilson and Laura Lee Brown.
Robbins has been at 21c since 2005, knows the brand's product and ethos intimately, and has clearly been chosen with a focus firmly on the future. It's testament to Accor's enlightened acquisition and integration policies that rather than parachuting in someone from HQ to a top role at its latest buy, it chose to promote from within and reward an employee who has played a significant role in getting 21c to where it is today.
Many large corporations would have done the complete opposite but, as I have mentioned before, Accor invests in companies it likes and then allows them to keep doing what attracted Accor's interest in the first place - they are not forced in to a corporate mould and stripped of their soul and identity, but allowed to continue on their original paths, albeit with some serious financial muscle behind them.
