Experiences certainly matter in travel. Just look at how often they're used in marketing campaigns. But today we look more broadly at experiences, and another aspect of the business: recruiting.
Some hotel companies are starting to embrace a new approach to hiring that includes opening up searches beyond candidates with just hospitality on their resumes, as On Experience columnist Colin Nagy highlights today. The different life experiences brought by mid-career professionals to hospitality is being seen as a great refresh for the industry. Deploying staff with varying backgrounds, Nagy writes, "moves beyond the abstraction of spreadsheets and theory, and into something as simple as creating a feeling for guests, and anticipating their needs." Not everybody will be suited for work in hospitality, but encouraging a different mindset in building a staff is never a bad thing.
