The World Poker Tour DeepStacks is running a series from Oct. 10-21 at the Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. The series is highlighted by the WPTDS $1,500 no-limit hold’em main event from Oct. 17-21.
The main event will feature three starting flights, day 2 on Sunday, Oct. 20, with a final table on Monday, Oct. 21. Last May, top pro and Colorado resident Faraz Jaka won the inaugural WPTDS Black Hawk main event for $104,900.
Black Hawk is located in the Rocky Mountains about 40 minutes west of Denver. The state legalized casino gambling in the early 1990s.
Golden Gates is home to the largest poker room in the state. With 17 tables in the main poker room and five more in the overflow room, it is the premiere spot for tournament poker in Colorado.
The casino hosts several major tournaments throughout the year with multiple stops from WPTDS, Heartland Poker Tour, and the Mid-States Poker Tour. No other casino property in the state plays host to tournaments run by those brands.
It’s most recent HPT event drew 930 entries, which was the largest tournament in Colorado poker history. The numbers only stand to get better with new management at the helm.
Poker Manager John Padmore took over last February and has spent time considerably improving the tournament experience for his players.
“The number one complaint I heard about this room was long alternate lists,” said Padmore. “So it was an accomplishment [to expedite the alternate process]. I smile when I have a player buy into a $1,500 event late and ask, ‘How long is the alternate list?’ And I say, ‘We’ll get you in the game right away.’”
Aside from the poker tournament, Black Hawk is less than an hour away from some of the best outdoor activities available in the country. On off days, players can enjoy world-class camping, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, or even hot springs. For more information, visit the casino’s website.
