| | | | Taking it personally
• Back in the early days of digital personalisation, it felt rather odd when certain web adverts followed you round the internet, turning up in incongruous places and trying to sell you products which you had absolutely no interest in.
Things have got much more sophisticated since then, and although occasionally an overzealous campaign can make you feel as if certain brands are stalking you online, in general there is a much more appropriate level of personalisation aimed at internet users.
Hospitality companies are getting better at it too - achieving a more suitable balance without being intrusive. Well, that's my middle-aged perspective anyway. Mark Harris of Travel Intelligence Network says that to implement a really effective strategy, hospitality companies should be starting to target Generation Z - the next wave of consumers behind the Millenials. He has written a report on the subject which we will be hosting on Boutique Hotel News when it is published shortly. Until then, click here to see a video interview with Harris filmed at last month's Boutique and Lifestyle Hotel Summit.
