Hyatt's Sharing Economy Bet + Room Service Disrupted + Wyndham Eyes Vacation Rental Sale

Note From the Editor

It was a big day for Hyatt, which had lots of news during an earnings call Thursday, the most surprising of which was the revelation that it had taken a minority stake in "home meets hotel" platform Oasis. As hospitality editor Deanna Ting reported, the hotel company has said repeatedly that it wants to move into "adjacent spaces" beyond traditional hotels to cater to the evolving demands of its guests.

Also trying to keep up with consumer behavior: TripAdvisor, which has expanded food delivery service outside of the U.S. and Canada with Deliveroo. As hotel guests turn their noses up at pricey room service and opt for delivery from local restaurants instead, hotels are being forced to adapt — and that's good news for TripAdvisor's goals to grow business in new areas.
