An eventful time

• There are just three weeks to go until the return of the Direct Booking Summit - and Boutique Hotel News readers can now get their tickets with a 20 per cent discount.

The offer is available for both the Americas event in New York on September 27 and 28, and its sister conference in Barcelona on October 18 and 19. Just enter the code MEDIA20 when registering for tickets.

The event organisers say this year's summit series "will mark the opening of a new chapter of the Direct Booking Movement: ensuring that true hospitality begins on the website".

"These days we expect human voices and experiences online — anything less just disappoints. Hotels thrive on human relationships, so in today's internet-powered world we believe that true hospitality should begin on your website. A select group of the industry's leading influencers will meet with hundreds of hoteliers to discuss this and much, much more. Delegates will walk away with new ideas, game-changing strategies and an enviable contacts book," they say.

Ahead of the events, Triptease published a report on wholesalers "exposing the frustration they cause in the hotelier community".

"Find out why hotels are questioning their business ethics and even threatening to cut ties with them completely. Click here to download the report. You can also join our upcoming webinar and have all your your questions on the opaque world of wholesalers answered," say Triptease.

• Talking of industry events, we are in a period of relative calm before the storm as far as they are concerned. Over the next couple of months, my colleagues and I will be in attendance at a wide range of industry events including Hot.E, the Independent Hotel Show, Annual Hotel Conference, Hotel Tech Live and Sleep. If you would like to meet any of us for a chat at these events, please email us at info@internationalhospitality.media or call +44 (0)208 340 7989.
