| | | | A double-edged sword
• The issue of recruitment and, particularly, attracting young people to work in the UK hospitality industry is one which is only likely to intensify over the next few years, so it is heartening to hear the comments of Georgian House Hotel general manager Adam Rowledge, in our interview with him.
A relatively young GM himself, Rowledge says: "A career in hospitality has given me opportunities beyond what I can imagine I'd have had in any other industry. I've met some truly amazing people, learned more than I ever thought I would about such a variety of subjects, and I have made some amazing friends and had such fun along the way."
He also stresses the openness of the industry: "In hospitality anyone can succeed, it's a meritocracy, so it doesn't matter where you're from, what school you went to or your upbringing, everyone can make a real difference to their colleagues and guests from day one and I think that's really powerful."

• We've been absolutely delighted by the response to the 2018 2018 Boutique Hotel Guest experience Awards (The BoHos), after opening for entries at the start of the month. We have already received entries from 16 different countries, and are confident that the BoHos are well on their way to becoming an established highlight in the industry calendar.
The BoHos reward the boutique, lifestyle and hybrid hotels who provide the very best in guest experiences. The BoHos are unique in that the winners are decided, not by judges, but by the hotels' guests, using a combination of aggregated verified guest feedback from review sites and booking engines worldwide, and direct guest feedback via questionnaires. Each have a 50 per cent weighting in a hotel's overall score to give a true picture of the guest experience provided.
Once entries for the 2018 awards have been finalised (the entry period closes on January 19th), a three-month period of data collection will commence, where each property's verified online reviews and direct feedback from guests will be collected and handed over to impartial academics at Glion Institute of Higher Education, who will then independently collate, assess and analyse the data, and decide upon the results.
There is no cost to enter the BoHos so don't miss the opportunity to get your property's name up in lights!
The 2018 BoHos will be presented at a gala ceremony in London on May 21, on the first evening of the 2018 Boutique and Lifestyle Hotel Summit. Click here to enter the awards and here to buy tickets for the Summit and the BoHos ceremony.
