A half century

• Congratulations to Preferred Hotels & resorts on its 50th anniversary. It's a significant landmark for the California-based group which comprises more than 650 independent hotels, resorts, residences, and hotel groups across 85 countries.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts was founded by 12 North American hoteliers in 1968, as a referral organisation for hotels, under the name Preferred Hotels Association. By the time of its 10th anniversary in 1979, it had begun international expansion with 14 European hotel members as well as its first member in Asia Pacific.

The company has gone through some major changes and developments over the years including several name changes and converting to a for-profit stock corporation. In March 2015, it underwent a major rebrand and the launch of five distinct hotel collections: Legend, LVX, Lifestyle, Connect, and Preferred Residences. The pace of change in the hotel sector is only getting faster, and Preferred will no doubt continue to evolve and adapt to the markets it operates in.
