The Club has recently installed a series of historical photos from the archives in the hallway between the locker rooms and the Pro Shop, the area will also include printed honourboard shortly to recognise past major club event winners.
All members who play early are requested to
wait until the scheduled tee off time before starting the round. Course Maintenance staff plan the day around the first booked time and even starting a few minutes early can mean disruptions to greens or fairway mowing. There has been a growing number of members impatiently hitting up on course staff after starting their rounds earlier than scheduled. All members are reminded that course staff have right of way on the course.
The Board recently reviewed the
policy on Cart User Permits and it was agreed to remove the clause which restricted the granting of any new permits. A maximum of 25 permits was retained.
In recent months there have been a few members turning up for
competition play in unsuitable dress. In competition play the wearing of golf shirts (not singlets or t-shirts for men) is expected.
The Club has recently posted to the Notice Board the
financial results for the year to date after December 2017 (2nd Quarterly Reports). For the year to date the Club is trading with a Net Profit of $103k, against $53k profit last year and $59k profited budget for this year to date. There has been a slow down since January as expected and budgeted with the completion of renovations to nearby venues.
Golf NSW has provided the Club with a batch of
complimentary tickets for the Australian Ladies Classic at Bonville (22-25 Feb) and Ladies NSW Open (1 -4 March) at Coffs Harbour . If you would like to obtain a complimentary pass please see Wendy Gordon (Women's Golf President).
A large
Santa Ana couch nursery (1200m2)has been constructed on the South Eastern section of the practice range for the purpose of re-turfing tees. By having the nursery on site the couch will be able to gradually cut to tee height so that when a tee is resurfaced there will not be a long delay before playing from a suitable turf height.
The area to the
North west and north of the 13th tee has been opened up with the removal of trees approved in a past DA the Club has had in progress. The removal of the trees to the area will allow much improved sunlight to the 13th tee and provide an option to expand the tee size should it be required.
A
new concrete pathway will be installed shortly around the rear of the 15th green, to the 16th tee and leading away from the 16th tee.
Jack Lewis has left the Club's greenkeeping staff to take up a position at The Lakes whilst pursuing Lawn Bowls playing pennants for Caringbah. The Club wishes Jack all the best on his move.
The Course Committee have recently considered and Board agreed to press ahead with the removal of a few bunkers on the course, namely back left of the 10th, back right of the 7th (improve traffic wear and tear to 8th tee) and 9th 50m short of green rhs.
The Club's
irrigation pumps have been causing issues of late with 1 or 2 out of action at various times adding pressure to the remaining pumps. Coupled with the warmer weather a few dry patches are popping up on fairways. Replacement or repair of the pumps is due to be finalised to return to a steady supply.
Belinda Hodson (ALPGA) has recently commenced in the Golf Shop. Belinda is now available to provide clinics and tuition services. If you see a new face down there be sure to say hello :).
The Club has a number of
greens close to neighbouring properties (1st, 4th, 12th and 10th greens). One of the issues faced by the Club with these greens being close to homes is the clearing of debris from trees on these greens early of a morning prior to greens mowing. Typically after winds (Southerly for the 12th and 10th, or North-Easter for 1st and 4th) the greens and bunkers are covered in debris from certain varieties of trees around those greens. About 6 months ago the rear of the 12th green (1st picture below) had 4 slash pines removed. Without effecting play the removal of these trees has reduced the need to clear (loudly) the green of debris following any southerly. 10 minutes earlier the 2nd picture below was taken of the 10th green covered in debris. It is intended to remove the trees (which are approved or don't require approval) around these greens which cause the waste and replace long term with better screening varieties that do not lose as much foliage.
