• There was a lot of talk about brands at The 21st International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin this week. Carlson Rezidor used the event to announce its rebranding as Radisson Hotel Group, and to introduce the Radisson Collection - formerly known as the Quorvus Collection.
Accor (now home to 24 brands) boss Sebastien Bazin, formerly something of sceptic about the big hotel players' conveyor belt of brand launches told the IHIF audience: "Four years ago when I was here I thought that brands could matter less, but I was wrong. Brands are like a group of friends, for every occasion you can count on them for a different purpose and that's what clients want. They provide a short cut in a very crowded world and have enormous value."
The big boys are not going to stop launching new brands in to the boutique and lifestyle space any time soon - IHG CEO Barr announced that the company will be launching a conversion brand later this year as well as the imminent acquisition of luxury brand to sit above InterContinental. It's going to get even more crowded out there.
