At the weekend I wrote about Airbnb's partnership with the Thailand Boutique Accommodation Trade Association (TBAA) - a significant step in building bridges between the sharing economy and the hotel industry. And now Marriott has extended its partnership with Host Maker to grow the number of properties available in its home-sharing pilot.
Launched in London, the Tribute Portfolio Homes brand now offers properties in Paris, Rome and Lisbon too. From their initial rather dismissive and stand-offish attitude to Airbnb and its ilk, the major hotel companies are now embracing the home-sharing model whole heartedly - mainly because they recognise it's what a large number of guests want.
Belinda Pote, Marriott International's chief sales and marketing officer for Europe, said: "The London pilot complements our current hotel portfolio and drives incremental business. We look forward to expanding our home-sharing offering to Paris, Rome and Lisbon." In other words it's a tasty additional revenue stream when marketed and managed properly. Look out for worldwide expansion of Tribute Portfolio Homes over the next couple of years.
