• Amidst all the confusion and uncertainty gripping the UK as the cut off point for a Brexit deal looms ever closer, there was a small ray of light for the country's hospitality sector shining from the pages of a recent piece of research by Caterer.com.
The company polled 21,000 hospitality workers across the EU and found that the UK still ranks as the most desirable place to work. It wasn't exactly a landslide victory, with 16 per cent of workers citing the UK as the top destination, closely followed by Switzerland and Germany, both with 14 per cent.
In these uncertain times it's easy to overlook what a wonderful destination the UK is and what a huge draw its hospitality sector has become, ranging from the household name grand hotels of London to tiny seaside B&Bs.
The industry provides employment for just under three million people, with a large chunk of these being EU nationals. It is expected that those already here will be given leave to remain post-Brexit, but the transitory nature of the sector means they will mostly move on, leaving a large number of roles to be filled. This is where employers need to step up their efforts to help new overseas staff through the relocation process, invest in training and generally do their very best to retain good people for as long as they can.
